San Leonardo, simply put, is one of Italy hottest wines right now. Winner of the coveted Tre Biccheri (Three Glass award) two years in a row, this classic blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, and Merlot is quickly becoming a must for collectors of Bordeaux-style wines from Italy. Made from grapes grown in the high valley of the Italian Alps (in German-speaking Italy), San Leonardo has always been a favorite of Italian collectors and only recently has begun to appear on wine lists and in auction lots in the United States. The warm 2000 vintage made for wines that are already cellar well now: drink or cellar for up to 20 years (who can lose on an investment like that?).
San Leonardo is one of the Vino staff's favorite gift wines: this wine is so "googlicious" (i.e., you will find so much info on it when you "google") that even the neophyte collector will be thrilled to receive as a gift.
