Moscato di Trani is a classic southern Italian dessert wine made from dried Moscato grapes grown in the township of Trani (near the city of Bari in Puglia, the region that forms the heel of Italy's boot). The vineyards lie on the famous tuff-rich flats of this historic center for wine production: the subsoil of the
piani di tufara
is composed of tuff (ancient volcanic sediment), which imparts a clean minerality to this sweet wine. Rivera's Moscato di Trani Piani di Tufara is traditionally paired with Pugliese pastries -- a particular favorite with the region's many desserts made with almonds.
